The Interview: Flawsome Home

We caught up with Emma Barry of Instagram blog “Flawsome Home” to find out a little more about her unique interior aesthetic. Bold and playful, Emma’s 1930’s Northern Ireland home is full of colour and character. The best part about Emma’s home? The hallway. Like a vibrant hall of fame, Emma is the queen of creating the perfect gallery wall. From abstract prints and striking typography, to portraits of icons such as Frida Kahlo and Kate Moss, Emma tells us all about her stylish sanctuary.

Describe your design style in three words

My style in 3 words, eclectic, colourful, fun.

Where did your love of interiors come from?

I'm not exactly sure when my love of interiors started but I remember changing my room around a lot as a child and then ripping up my carpet and painting the walls purple. I think my mum thought I was mad, I wanted to do interior design but wasn't good enough at art.

Your home has lots of colourful accents, is this part of your signature look?

I think all the colour kind of evolved naturally, mainly through the art. The walls and furniture are fairly neutral colours.

What's your favourite spot in your home and why?

My favourite spot on the house is the front living room, I love the gallery wall in there and the velvet sofa. It always gets the sun too.

Can you share your top tips for creating the perfect gallery wall?

Tips for creating the perfect gallery wall are to not try and make it too perfect. Start with a few prints you love and build it up. I roughly space them the same amount apart but use different size and colours of frames. I also recommend Velcro strips and lightweight frames as the don't move if you walk past them, great for stair galleries.

What do you love most about home décor?

I love the art in my home, it always cheers me up and can be changed up easily if you fancy something new.

So, what's next on the horizon for Flawsome Home?

Next on the horizon is a downstairs toilet renovation and then I'm done. We'll I think I am but actually I change things a lot so who knows!
